Data Recovery from RAID

To decrease the risk of loosing data, a 2 or more hard drives can be set-up to work together so that the failure of one disk does not cause complete loss of data. Generally in a RAID when a drive fails it can be replaced by another drive of the same type and the data is 're-built' over the new drive.

There are a number of types of RAID and a good resource for information on the different type of RAID arrays can be found here: RAID Arrays

What matters to you is that if you already have a RAID setup and have had the failure of one or more drives, or even of the complete RAID, we will be able to help you out.

All RAID types (except RAID 0) can cope with at least one drive failing and generally you will be notified of this. If not, tell tale signs in external RAID enclosures and servers are red lights or no lights on particular drives and on external RAID enclosures they may put themselves into a protective state with an error light showing - this may make your data inaccessible. If the later has happened, try not to worry, they generally do this to protect your data and will function again one the faulty drive has been replaced.

If you have any questions on what to do in the event of a drive in your RAID failing or a complete RAID failure then get in touch with us immediately on 0845 475 4512 or via our Contact Us page. RAIDs can be very complex and differ from setup to setup, the wrong move could lose all your data.
